(St. Paul, MN) -- Governor Pawlenty sent lawmakers a letter late Monday that he plans to veto Democrats' bonding bill, but later that night the majority went ahead and passed the package anyway. House bonding chair Alice Hausman said the governor's letter was overwhelming and dispiriting. In the Senate, Republican Minority Leader Dave Senjem urged his colleagues to fix the bill so the governor will sign it. The governor objects the bonding bill spends too much. Democrats were hoping he'd line-item veto it down to the size he wants, rather than taking down the whole bill.
